12 Tips to Run Outdoors

  1. Stay hydrated! Drink Water before, during, and after you exercise.
  2. Warm up by moving. Cool down with dynamic (moving) stretches.
  3. Apply sunscreen before running or walking outside during daylight hours.
  4. Wear easily visible clothing.
  5. Choose lightweight, breathable fabrics.
  6. Make sure your shoes are exercise-appropriate, and your laces are tied.
  7. Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
  8. Notify someone of your anticipated route and E.T.A. before you go.
  9. Take advantage of cooler temperatures, generally early morning and late evening.
  10. Run or walk with others for safety and fun.
  11. Limit distractions, i.e. earphones, cell phones, etc. to watch for hazards.
  12. Run or walk on a surface where you can see holes, divots and level changes.
