The Right Changes = Success

“It’s not getting there that’s tough; it’s staying there that poses its share of challenges.” – N. Anderson.

I’m a survivor. By that I mean, I survived the weight loss journey over 30 years ago, and today I remain 50 pounds lighter. I think we can all agree that although the weight loss road can be challenging, maintaining those changes is likely the hardest piece of the weight loss puzzle.

For those of you that have had your share of diet hopes, only be left hopeless it’s frustrating to say the least. But the truth is that the inability to maintain weight loss is often the result of making changes you don’t really connect with.

If you have been successful in your weight loss travels, you’re to be commended. For those of you either in the throes of the process or just getting started, you too can experience success. It all begins with making healthy changes that make sense for you. If you’re able to do that, you’ll be successful. Further, if you have a supportive team around you throughout the good, the bad and the ugly of your journey, you will succeed.

However, we can’t ignore the reality that change of any kind is difficult. So that is why it’s imperative that the changes you embrace are sensible, and applicable to your life, values and personality. If you do that, you’ll find the process much easier. All too often we make changes based on what others feel we should do. If we don’t make changes based on what makes sense for us, those changes will be temporary.

Over the years, I have worked with people that vow to lose weight in order to get skinny. The problem with that is being skinny isn’t really what they want, it’s the byproducts they long for such as, more energy, the ability to participate more fully in life, traveling more, etc. Remember, weight loss is the byproduct of positive change.

This week, I’d like you to think about the next phase of your journey, wherever you are.  Begin today by thinking about changes which resonate with you. Some you will keep, and others you will let go. The beauty is you can adjust as you go.  But all the while you’ll be transitioning into a healthy life based on choices that make sense to you. If you’re able to do that, while surrounding yourself with a great support system, you can’t lose. Well, actually, you will lose, for good!
